STEPRIM
STEPRIM
SURFACE TREATMENT FOR CORKS
STEPRIM could be called primer for STEVAPASTE, and is a kerosene emulsion that enhances cork anti-capillarity.
1 - Composition :

Anionic kerosene wax emulsion.

Technical specifications

    • Appearance: white liquid.
    • Dry extract: 46 ± 2%.
    • Brookfield viscosity: 50-250 cP (LV1 – 10 rpm)
2 - Properties :

It reinforces the cap’s anti-capillarity when desired.

If polymerizable silicones are used, STEPRIM facilitates adhesion and evenness on the cork.

STEPRIM added on top of excessively slippery corks can eventually reduce slipperiness.

STEPRIM was originally developed to prevent wine spillage. In use, it has demonstrated its many advantages.

Food safety: All the products used in STEPRIM comply with :

  • FDA 21 CFR regulations and amendments,
  • EC regulation N° 10/2011 and its amendments,
  • for other regulations, please refer to the food contact certificate.
3 - Application:

STEPRIM should be shaken before use. Inject STEPRIM into the drum before injecting the glide product (STEVAPASTE type). For 10,000 natural corks (44 x 24):

  • Inject approx. 100 grams of STEPRIM.
  • Leave to run for 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Then inject approx. 100 grams of STEVAPASTE

Allow to run for a further 10 to 15 minutes. Suggested dosage for 10,000 corks:

  • Natural (44 x 24): 100 grams of STEPRIM, then 100 grams of STEVAPASTE.
  • Clogged (44 x 24): 80 grams of STEPRIM, then 80 grams of STEVAPASTE
  • Agglomerated (35 x 24): 70 grams of STEPRIM, then 70 grams of STEVAPASTE.

STEPRIM and STEVAPASTE can be used on all types of drum (heated or unheated, oscillating axes, etc….). To avoid clogging, the syringes and spray nozzles used should preferably be different for each product.

4 - Storage:

Storage of corks : STEPRIM-treated corks offer excellent stability over time.

STEPRIM storage : Protect from frost. Store at temperatures above 3°C. Avoid storage beyond 12 months. Avoid storage beyond 12 months

5 - Other :

Thermolysation : In view of the different heat treatments of wines (Pasteurization, sterilization, thermolysation, flash pasteurization), it is advisable to check the behavior of kerosene.

SURFACE TREATMENT FOR CORKS
1 - Composition

Anionic dispersion, solvent-free.

Active ingredients :

    • High-molecular-weight, high-viscosity methylsiloxane.
    • Synthetic polyolefin wax with melting point above 140°C.
    • Dry extract: 65%
2 - Properties :

Excellent chemical stability during storage, processing and on corks, before and after corking.

Virtually inert between -20° and +100°C in a dry or humid atmosphere and in the absence or presence of normal natural or artificial light.

Does not alter the odor or taste of the wine. In compliance with EC regulation no. 1935/2004 of October 27, 2004, STEVAPASTE has been tested for migration by an accredited laboratory. As a result, corks treated with Stevapaste meet inertia criteria for overall migration and migration specific to organostannous substances in alcoholic beverages;

Action on beer and cider foams, etc… Action on beer, cider, etc.: practically nil, for the reasons given above.

All products used in STEVAPASTE comply with :

    • FDA 21 CFR regulations and amendments,
    • EC regulation N° 10/2011 and its amendments,
    • for other regulations, please refer to the food contact certificate.
3 - Application :

STEVAPASTE is generally used in its original form, without any preparation. It can be diluted with water without difficulty.

Quantities used vary according to grading, washing, the nature of the corks (solid, sealed or unsealed, or agglomerated) and the type of bottling for which they are intended, between 60 and 400 grams for 10,000 corks. The most common quantities are between 80 and 200 grams.

The passage time in the cold or hot drums is between 15 and 30 minutes. Cold corks can be used after 12 to 24 hours, depending on ambient temperature and whether they are bagged or spread. When hot, by blowing hot air into the drum during treatment or after treatment in a dryer (hot air 50°C for 15 minutes), corks can be used within 4 to 5 hours.

Correction of dosage: Treatment too weak or too strong can be corrected up to 24 hours after manufacture, by adding a new dose of STEVAPASTE, or by adding untreated corks.

Compatibility with waxing: Waxing can be combined with STEVAPASTE treatment.

For example: Rotate for 5 to 15 minutes with kerosene blocks or our STEPRIM kerosene wax emulsion, then add the STEVAPASTE dose (with or without removing the kerosene blocks) for 15 to 30 minutes (the STEVAPASTE dose is then reduced). STEVAPASTE can also be applied to paraffin plugs.

The marking ink is generally unaffected by STEVAPASTE. Most corks can be “treated” 1 to 2 hours after marking, without tarnishing.

Stability: STEVAPASTE-treated corks have excellent long-term stability in terms of slippage, odour and taste. Solvent-free and odorless, chemically stable, easy to use, giving a regular and permanent slip, compatible with kerosene, with no influence on marking inks and allowing significant reductions in storage time, STEVAPASTE is increasingly considered economical for its high performance.

4 - Storage :

Store away from frost and temperatures above 35°C.

Avoid prolonging storage beyond 12 months.

STEVAPASTE P2
SURFACE TREATMENT FOR CORKS
